Anybody got a good starting procedure for an engine that hasn't been started for several months? It's a '74 so it's got a mechanical sump. Don't want to score the walls too bad on start-up. I do have STP oil treatment in the pan. Thanks.

Several months? Not that long of down time, to me. Of course, my cars sit like that quite often! 
If you're really concerned, pull the plugs, and squirt a little engine oil in the cylinders. Then, spin the engine with the plugs out for a couple of seconds. This will coat the cylinder walls with some oil, as well as fill the carb with fuel.
Then stick the plugs back in, and fire that puppy up!

Never thought it was a problem unless it sat for a year or two.
Up north here, 5 months is the normal downtime.

Thanks for the response. I'll do the plug removal. That's a pretty easy solution not including the right front one under the AC compressor.

Access the plugs through the wheel wells ,reach in through the A-Frame,
