I purchased a new mini started for my 68 427 (auto) and I cannot achieve the proper clearance, I have no shims and the clearance is over .050. do I have to machine an extra .020 off the housing of the starter? to compound the problem, it would appear the starter is moving (twisting) after I try to start the car this adds to the clearance issue. Does anyone out there have any advise?

They sure don't make things in China like they used to, not trying to be a butthead but, some of these starters are not very good, and sometimes you can't put the flywheel cover back on, if it were me I would return the mini and put a new BB starter back on
