Valve Stem Seals? Maybe they dried out ?  White smoke would be a good indicator...

Blue smoke is oil.  Black is Fuel.  White is usually antifreeze or water.

A lot of condensation in the exhaust may cause white smoke for quite a while until it dries out.   Or there could be a gasket leaking causing the misfire.

I would take the plugs out and see what they look like.  A coolant leak will make them VERY clean.  A rich condition from a float will make them black.

Yep knew about the difference in the color of the smoke....
my 76 definitely needs Valve seals and both the 72 and 79 are beginning to  show signs of needing them also....Picked up 3 sets of Studebaker/Packard seals just before I ran into my health issues    cheap under 20 bucks a set but from prior experience I know it will take me a day and a half to install each set...I'm not a fast wrench... LOL

Today....I should have a chance (if my buddy comes over) to at least look at the carb and pulling the plugs is on the agenda...  car just really stumbles and is hard to keep running...just "felt" like a fuel problem but to be honest the smoke was not expected...not a little puff...more like I poured a can of gum out down the carb...

SUCCESS..... My Buddy came over this morning and we pulled the two floats out of the Carb replaced them...replaced the gaskets ..ran the jets in and out a few times...and the car started right up and ran fine...actually ran darn (and pulled hard) well as I rode shotgun and Harry took it out for a short 15-20 mile drive... only thing we hads top do was boast the idel up a hair when we got back...

I'm a happy guy... The 64 and the 76 also got out today (again with me riding shotgun..) .

I hONESTLY can tell you that even riding shot gun in a Corvette after almost 2 years of not driving them was very very satisfing...

Harry is a retired GM guy...at one time owned his own Chevy Dealership but worked as a "Money" guy for GM's
dealers...most of his carreer ...(job was simple make more money for each dealership)... He enjoyed himself
and even washed the 72 and 76 before they went back in the garage...said they were kind of DUSTY... boy were they !

Anyway... all 5 cars now start up and run...the 79
and the 98 stayed in the garage today...BUt at least I know they run fine....

Unbleivabole as it seems I did not have to bleed the brakes on any of them as I usually have to do every spring...nor did the power steering control valve leak as they normally do in the spring... I must be living good NOW hopefully I'll be in good enough shape to actually drive them myself ina month or so...."FINGERS CROSSED"

OH and BTW....

I last put gasoline in the 72 on Nov 7th 2005....yep 2005 .... 2.48 a gallon for high test   so the car has not been run in THREE years...NOT TWO...

What a freaken waste of a good car...! it ain't about to  happen again !

Hey Bob G.,
Thats all good news!
Sounds like soon enough you'll be asking yourself "Which one should I drive today?"

Hey Bob, it was nice meeting you last weekend in Frederick.  Your 98 looked cool but I'd really like to see your other 3!  Glad to hear that all is well in toyland.  Take care and get back driving!  And yes, my car really is BLUE!
