My car (1977) does not have the interlock feature. There's a lever under the key that you have to raise to turn the key, but that's it. I'm gonna have to have the shifter re-built. It's just too hard to get to for me to work on it from the garage floor.

Yep, I think '76 is the last year with the reverse/ignition interlock. But on mine nothing visibly rotates on the steering column. It's all internal.
1976 Silver/Firethorn. L48, 4spd. Original 2 bolt, vortec heads, 9.4:1 CR, Speed Pro Cam: 224/224@0.050, 112 LSA, Eagle Steel Crank.
