Hi all,
Changed the rear gear oil recently. To make the job easier I removed the spare tire housing. My spare tire wheel needs some TLC. The wheel color is in the yellow family. Looks like school bus yellow. Does anyone know the correct yellow color? I wonder why Chevrolet painted it yellow 🤔
Thanks,
Kenny78

Haven't looked at mine for years but I believe it was the original silver rally wheel. Wonder if the tire which is 50 years old is still usable? 🤔😉

I personally don't know if the steel rally wheels on C3 Corvettes were painted any other color than argent silver. That being said, my guess would be that your spare originally came from another GM vehicle that had body color wheels.

I believe the '78 models had yellow rims...I know the Pacers did. Should also be a space saver/temporary, iirc. It was done so people would be too embarrassed to drive around on the goofy yeller spare rim, and then they would get the road tire replaced quickly.

To quote an Artie Johnson character from Laugh-In - "Very interesting, but weird!" No doubt a tidbit of info from the NCRS world.

The early '78s(Sept-March build dates) came with the yaller spare rims. Later cars were black, but they were still the non-rally type rims.
