Should I be worried about this? The oild passage way hole is much larger than the pits and the pits have smooth edges. The crankshaft is a GM casting number 395159; which based on my research; this is a cast crank that was used in 1970-1980 400 cid SBC. It has the XL mains; 2 piece seal and is externally balanced.
Do I need to woory about this? If so, what recommendations do you have?
What are recommendations on bearings?

Looks like you are having some fun! The pitting is not a big worry since I assume you are going to have the crank cut...not a big cost at all..where did you find a 400? I haven't seen one of them laying around in some time..torque monster!

Crank definitely needs turned to get the pits out. You wouldn't wanna actually run that crank without having it turned, imho. The rod bearings having pits also would indicate that this engine may have been setting up for a while...
What are ya actually doing here? Building a new engine?
