I have Hooker side pipe headers (on a 1971 small block 4-speed). The driver side is tighter than the passenger side. The clutch cross shaft goes between two of the tubes, so it has to come out first
. With regular headers, you may be able to lift it out from the top, but I'm not sure. The steering box also gets in the way. Just have a lot of beer available and keep small children's ears out of cursing distance while doing the job!
