Is it necessary to remove the steering arm when taking out the power steering control valve and if it is due you need a gear puller? thanks

Bruce, no .........just remove the castle nut with the cotter pin through it that connects to the steering/ pitman arm. Make sure to drain the fluid out of the hoses. You do have to turn the pitman arm out the way to the right to unscrew the control valve from the relay rod. I hope this helps.

Also change out the rubber mount bushing with new parts, with rubber, or poly.

Im actually in the middle of the same repair. I cannot seem to loosen the or spin off the valve assembly. It does not want to move at all. I've practically removed the retaining screw. Maybe I am being too gentle with this since I have a core charge on the stupid thing.

Try some heat then try turning it in a tightening rotation then loosening rotation.
