Hey Gang, After what seemed like forever, (Was really
5 weeks) The 427 is back from the rebuilder and needs to
be reinstalled. Question is, which is the best / easy
way back in - With or without the trans? Working on a 68
427 / 4sd here. Helped pull the motor / trans as a unit
years ago before this was mine and seem to think it was
very tight? Thanks! Bruce

I just pulled the 350 out of my '76. I do not have an 'A' frame to lift the motor. I used the everyday type hoist. It would not reach from the front due to the nose length of the car. I had to go in from behind the front wheel. There is no way I could have removed the transmission with it. Check the link below my picture and you will see a couple pics of the hoist location. The boom was extended to the max length, radiator removed, and rear wheels on ramps to allow me to get to the transmission to unbolt the convertor.

As one unit will require more ground clearance and a higher engine lift than installing them seperately. It depends on what you have available. Jack stands and a floor jack would dictate doing one at a time.

Happy to report the engine trans went in with out a
hitch! Had the back end up on stands, used the normal
hoist and one of the crank type levelizer (?sp?) And
my wife as the one in charge of making sure I did not
drop it on a fender! Now just need to hook up all those
wires and stuff. BBB
