 I am in the process of doing my front end steering linkage. Cleaning up and replaceing some things.  The power steering pump, slave cylinder, and control unit to the best of my knowledge are original. They seem to work well and do not leak. I have a couple hoses that leak though. I would like to do a good job and prevent problems. I will be replaceing all hoses and fluid. Should I be concerned with the unit themselves or leave them alone till leaks present themselves?  A complete line up was done last fall at inspection and the tech said the linkage and joints were all very tight, and front end was very solid.   I do all the work myself in my cellar and have most needed tools.  Any insight will be appreciated.   THANKS           Mark           Upper/lower control arms, ball joints and tie rods ends are done.manchestershark2010-02-17 06:41:33

When I rebuilt the front end on my 75 I rebuilt the cylinder,  control valve and replaced the pump ( it was noisey ) It's not that hard to rebuild.  ( PEACE OF MIND )

...and, on the other hand, Chevy's power steering units are famous for leaking, so if you've got one that doesn't, I would leave well enough alone. Seems there are always needs when a car gets this old. The money might be better spent else where.

I agree.  Why rebuild/replace any parts before they need it.  Instead, plan another trip to Minnesota to see our new store.  On the other hand we do have a customer who says "If it aint broke, work on it until it is broke.  Then you can fix it"

Larry, THANKS on both concerns. I will take the advice.  The TRIP is in the works.  I try not to monkey up something that is not broke.
