Put the posi fluid in first 8 oz I think. Then after you fill it up go to a parking lot & do about 6-8 figure 8's. If it's the rear the noise will go away.

I'd check the rear wheel bearings next if the Posi isn't the problem.

When the clutch pack in the rear is slipping it is much more of a severe clunking noise. You will definitely feel it in the seat. Nothing else sounds the same. The Posilube will definitely solve that problem if that IS the problem. Grinding is normally indicative of bad wheel bearings or a dragging e-brake. Also, if you do change the rear fluid, you must do the circles in a parking lot to condition the clutch plates.

Thanks for the info Dave. No, I wasn't in Carson but about that time frame we were looking for a Corvette. We finally got this one July. I'll have to get it's picture up here soon.

Yeah Scott, I certainly feel this in the seat. It is a gawd awful sound for a very short time. I will changing the fluid as soon as possible and report back on the results.
 
Circles and figure 8's.....can't wait.

Ernie,
If your problem is with the clutch pack, the fluid change will cure the problem assuming nothing in there has been damaged. You may find some real cruddy stuff coming out of the differential. I use an electric pump to pull the old stuff out. Drive the car a few miles before you attempt to pump the fluid out. It flows a lot easier when hot. Put one bottle of GM positrac lube in first and then add the gear oil to the bottom of the fill hole. After closing everything up go to a parking lot and do circles in each direction with the steering wheel all the way to the stop.  That will fix the problem, if the clutch pack is causing the noise.
