Howdy got question for the masses. I need to replace my rear main seal and I was wondering how hard that is to do with the engine still in place. Ive done it on rebuilds but Ive never tried with the engine in place. Is it so much a PIA that I should just pull the engine or???????????? Anywho thanx

its not as easy but it can be done

Pull the starter,oil pan,oil pump, loosen the main bearing bolts so that the crank drops maybe .040, remove the rear main cap,use the lower half of the old r.m. seal to try and drive the upper half out a ways,push a well oiled new upper in, new well oiled lower reverse process. If crank doesn't drop enough you might have to slide the trans back so that the input shaft ot torque converter clears the clutch disk or flex plate
