hi all, i have 2 questions about the rear end i bought for my car.
1st:
the ID on the pumpkin is: AWW 168 E2
does anybody know what this is?
( when i bought it i was told it was a 3:08 POSI.
this came off a 74 but may not have been original.
2nd:
one of the side yokes comes out.
the other one seems to be retained.
i see no groove for a retaining ring on the end of the yoke spline.
anyone got any answer about this?
thanks
joe

AW = 3.08 ratio(posi)
W = Warner Gear
168 = Julian date of the year[168th day of the year, or June 17th](casting date will tell the year)
E= Eaton Posi unit
2 = assy shift #
If the yoke comes out of the diff, and you see no snap-ring groove on the end, the yoke is no good. It has worn down so far that the snap-ring has fallen off inside the diff. The yoke, and possibly the center pin of the diff will need to be replaced.
Check out these pics for info on de-coding the diff, and a look at good yokes...

ahhh man, i was hoping it woundn't need rebuilding.
but i had a feeling , in fact a bought a gasket for the rear end. my gut told me that was not right.
well, i should have asked the question sooner, as you can see by the attached pic i just put it on the frame !
well , off it comes !

thanks for the info on identifying it . at least that part was good !
i'll probably be asking for some help when i pull it apart.
