Rear end Gear inspection ?

Now that I have the rear end cover off are there any tips for things that I should look for inside before I put the new cover on and refill the rear end?

Also, the kit I bought to refill the rear end came with 3 large bottles of rear end lube and 2 small bottles of additive. I was told by a guy I know around were I live that I should put one bottle of the rear end lube in and then the two bottles of additive in. After that I should just put in enough rear end fluid till it comes up and out of the fill hole. Is this correct? The large fill hole plug is at the middle of the rear end cover so if I do that it means the rear end will be half full of fluid, and is that correct. Sorry for sounding so ignorant but, this is my first time ever doing anything associated with the rear end of my vette. I don't want to mess it up.

Vince, my trusty service manual says 4 oz. additive and then fill up to the filler hole. Mike

Yes, that is correct. One bottle should be 4 oz.

What is the additive and where do I get some? My diff has leaked dry and baring more frozen bolts like today will be dropped filled and the seal replaced tomorrow.

Don't know how much help this will be. Again, out of the service manual. GM 1052358 Additive or equivalent.Chevy dealer? Or good parts store. Very important, tho. Mike

You can actually get it a NAPA, AutoZone, Murrys etc.

Got it at the closest Chevy dealer, was cheap and I'm about to put it in. Looking for the post on the order! I also wanted to replace the leaf spring bolt and castle nut etc since that was such a to get out! Total rust! Finall got it thanks to WD40, but my final conclusion was that not replacing nut and bolt would force me to wear a sign that said not but...I AM Stupid. LOL

Scot, I came to the same conclusion. I did all the above. My bolts were too rusty to save. I ordered everything I saw related to the system from Corvette Central. I am much happier now.
