Rear Alignment

I recently changed the rear strut bushings which were worn. I got the rotating eccentric bolts put back as close as I could to where I thought they were before the new bushings. The drivers side tire looks about where it was (bottom of tire slightly out futher than the top) but the pass side rear tire looks almost straight up and down. Does this sound close enough? or do I need to have another alignment done? or try to adjust the pass side to match the drivers side? I plan to have the trailing arms done in the springtime and I know I will have an alignment done then.

Wear on the yokes inside the differential can cause this condition. End play on the yokes is .050" maximum.

Get the alingment done. It's worth it. You can affect handling and tire wear if it's out just a degree or two.

Yea I know you are right. These cars just have a way of continual draining the finances. One project always leads to another one. I wasn't sure how critical the rear alignment was. She drives smooth and straight as an arrow. But I guess it could still be off enough to chew through my new tires pretty quick.

This months vette magazine has an article on rear end geometry. It takes you through the adjustment you're talking about and closes with "that's enough to get you to an alignment shop"
I'm not even going to attempt an alignment on mine, everything is replaced. I didn't even put front end shims back in. When ready, it's going on a trailer to a shop to be "set up" from scratch.

You spent all the time and effort and $$$ to do the work on the rear... so don't stop now, spend the $$$ and finish the job.

I just replaced all of the rear suspension parts too. What amazed me was how much the camber bolts can move the wheel in or out.

We put them back good enough to drive straight, but it looks like an alignment shop is a must. I would never be comfortable with just eyeballing it.

The alignment bolts do a good job, however, i think I've seen more bent rods than straight ones. I replaced mine with the adjustable rods. More adjustment, easier adjustment. One of the few mods I've treated the car to!

I found out the hard way on rear alignment. My 68 roadster drove stright and everything. But I got it up past 110-125 mph one nite and it was just like someone kicked a wheel out from under the car.Went into a side slide big time. Like a dummy I tried it again and same thing happened. Also did it going around curves. Got it alligned and no more problems. Since then, anything just feels funny back there I get it checked out. Also I don't drive that fast anymore. I was 25 years younger then. (Can't seem to get my pictures on here either, I'll figure it out yet)
