OK guys, still a little chilly in western MA, but, had a couple days peak NEAR 60 degrees so the vert came out of hibernation. Started right up, and runs pretty well.
Several years ago  I put a rebuilt quadrajet on it as it should have instead of the AFB that was on t when I bought it, did not mess with it just drove it. A buddy who has some experiance with carbs.....came over and made some minor adjustments but It never  really had the snap I think it should and when floored, it does not make as  deap a  WHAOOOOO sound I think it should....dont get me wrong, it gets up and goes , but, maybe I feel adjustment is still off. I was thinking of adjusting the carb, and I may be under the wrong impression, but, do you basically lean the two mixture screws out to make highest  rpm ..and then reset the idle?  seams too easy so there is probaly more to it than that....anybody care to talk me through it?   Thanks Wink

Take a look at Ken's Quadrajet article, and see if that helps any. Sounds like your secondaries are not kicking in(whooosh sound), and the mixture might be a bit lean.

Eric,
Last year I had a problem with my Q-Jet when I first hit the gas pedal or floored it.
It turned out the aftermarket air cleaner I was using was interfering with the accelarator pump linkage.
Just food for thought.
Let us know how you make out with this.
Kevin

well that was pretty easy.....Per Kens  article I put mixture screws in and backed them out 2 turns....still not enough though...ran lean as hell and would barley idle...2 1/2 helped much, and 2 3/4 turns each seams to be the sweat spot! Now you can hear the secondaries open up...she breathes real good!!    Big%20smile
