Does the chrome ignition shielding serve any purpose or it just for decoration? All i can think of is it would shield the radio from static from solid core wires. Did C3's come with factory solid core wires? i seem to remember some C3's having them? But then again sometime my memeory fails me. |headscratch|

That is what there are for. With a plastic car they used the shields to do what most cars don't have to deal with. The firewall does it. Even with the shielding the radio interference is pretty bad. I don’t care much for chrome. I would like someone to make black covers or maybe different colors.

i kinda figured that but i thought it was more for the wires than the lack of metal in the body. replacing the missing shielding wil be one of my projects in the near furure. On another note you can always pick up a used cover somewhere and paint it black.

The big block cars not only have the shielding, they also have shileding on the wires themselves that ground to the valve covers and the shield mounts around the distributor. That way, the entire wire is surrounded by a 'ground'.

thats why i thought that the big block and hi-po cars had solid core wires.

I don't know if the wires themselves are solid but I do know thye are shielded and a replacement set is not inexpensive. I am going to try something other than the factory style wires with the new engine. I hope I don't have an RFI (radio frequency interferance) problem.

I just got rid of my Taylor wires, the RFI was terrible. After a few weeks the shielding in them started breaking down, it is at the point where I couldn't even turn the radio/cd on. Picking up new MSD 8.5 90 degree tomorrow. I didn't have this problem with the Delco wires but had to replace them last July when I put the 383 stroker (original block) and headers in.
