been having a few issues with the brakes the last couple weeks. replaced the master cylinder and then wound up replacing a bad left rear caliper. in the middle of all this it appears my proportion valve went too.Cry

after replacing the other things my brakes were still messed up and i noticed a drip now coming from behind the left front wheel. raised the car up on the lift and it was leaking at the valve. only place that appears to have them is ecklers and they are on back order. salesman told me they have 10 coming in and going out the same day.

if it is gunked up (great tech term there), has anyone ever taken one out and cleaned it with brake cleaner and it worked again or is it gone for good? Lampi do have one on order so i am not trying to get out of getting one just wondering if cleaning it would work. Smile

Its worth a try, have you made sure that all the lines are tight, seems the only place it could leak would be at the fittings,,was your old fluid cloudy? rd

Gather your patience for this one Dave. At least for me, there seemed to be few things more difficult than trying to restart the threads on 5 fixed lines coming in from different directions Confused.

rick, i am almost positive it is not the line leaking as it is in there tight as h**l. there is no air in the line as i vacuum bled them. even with just bleeding the rear brakes the pedal and braking is not right. plus the brake light has stayed on and that is wear the signal for the light comes from.

jim, most things on a corvette need patience. even if it is one thing going in some where your hands usually get in the way so you can't see. will be taking a big dose of patience before i start.

will let you guys know what happens.

Vacum bleeding may not be good enough to reset the valve. I had a similar problem first time working on my brakes. I would recomend bleeding the old fashion way with someone pumping the brakes for you and you bleeding at each weel here is the sequence Left rear inner Left rear outer Right rear inner Right rear outer Left front Right front after blleeding pump hard 2-3 times brake light should go out.

There is a reset procedure for resetting the proportioning valve.  Someone may correct me but I believe it is to bleed the brakes and eliminate any leaks then apply "significant" pressure to the brake pedal and the valve will reset.

robert and chip-- i bled the brakes in the proper order and the only small drip is coming from a connection on the proportioning valve. it doesnt squirt out when brake is pushed but is not pouring out. i have also pressed on the brake pedal hard enough that is should be reset. after 34 years it may just be time to replace it.

howard thanks for that site. they are selling them for $40 less than ecklers. will call them tomorrow and see if they have it in stock and if they do will order it from them and cancel ecklers.

Dave, keep in mind that Ecklers sells 2 versions. The authentic looking brass model at $120 and the alum. style at $60., just as good, looks different. And then too, have you checked with "Corvette Specialties"?
