Hi all,
I bought a power steeing pump from Advance auto.
I picked up a single groove pulley this weekend in Carlisle.
Put the pump on with pulley an it does not line up with the front groove of the pulley on the harmonic balancer which is a 2 groove pulley.
It is one belt off too the front of engine where there is nothing.
This is a big block set-up.
Has anyone used advances pump before?
Are they off from the originals by that much?
Thanks,
Joe

Is this car an original A/C equipped car?
Did the car originally have P/S?
Where did the balancer pulley come from?

I'm not sure there is all that much difference in the P/S pumps for GM cars, as far as the shafts on them, and how far out/in they sit.
There are, however, many different pulley configurations available.
Did the pulley you get at C/C have any numbers on it...perhaps ink stamped?

Not sure if this is relevant but I found info that said prior to 1975 a nut and woodruff key were used to hold on pulley and 75 up is the pressed on pulley, not sure if the pulleys would be different lining up to the crank pulleys?

Joel,
my car came with:...nothing....
All parts and engine were bought separately.
I am going to put on my alternator to see if that lines up.
Wish me luck.

Oh boy....thass gonna be a tough one, then...my only suggestion now would be to see if you can find someone/someplace that has a complete set of pulleys for a big block with P/S...or maybe you need a P/S pulley with two grooves...

That's cool, Joe, we all want to see it, too! But you need to get a chance to meet some of the GREAT people that are on this site! I hate to say this but once you're hooked up with THESE guys you will always want to come back! As Dan (The Rook) said, it's a web site that became a club! Good luck!
