Has anyone had trouble with belt clearence between the belt at the pulley and the frame. Mine has about 1/16 on an inch and to change the belt I must jack the engine up. I did find the The pump is the newer type but I don't know if that affects clearence. |headscratch|Are there different size Pullies?

My '70 has the original PS pump and pulley and has a lot more clearance than that. Make sure your belt is the right length. On my shark the belt tension is adjusted by tilting the PS assy in/out and then tightening it down. If your belt is the wrong diameter, or the shape does not fit down into the pulley grooves (The angles of the V don't match) then you might get some interference problems. My car had incorrect length belts by Gates when I got it and it threw everything out of whack - the alternator was at the end of it's adjustment and wanted to twist and it made everything look out of line and the belts rubbed where they shouldn't. I thought I had wrong pulleys or broken motor mount - checked everything to no avail. I purchased the GM restoration belts through ZIP, put them on and it all lined up perfectly. |thumb| What year is your vette?

You know sometimes you make mountains out of mole hills. Knowing that the pump was the wrong type, as well as everything else on this thing, I was looking for major problems because of the clearence. The engines out now but you may be right about the belt. Its the way I got the car, he must not have the right belt. |wavey| Thanks for the kick to get the brain working!

Its a 71 I sent you photos or the rear frame and suspension work.
