Hey all,

What is involved in putting new piston rings on. Is it a total teardown or just a removal of the heads?

Just curious

You will need to pull the heads and oil pan. Then you need to unbolt the rods from the crank. Then you need to remove the ridge at the top of the cylinder that is from carbon buildup and ware. Then push the pistons out the top. At that point you will want to check the cylinder walls for scratches and to see if they have ware (tapper is not a good thing but thats what happens, if it is real bad than it will need to be bored).
