The EGR is prolly plugged because it doesn't work, so hooking it up would most like create a problem. If you want to hook it up just so it looks right, then yu can run a small vacuum line to it, and just hide the other end under something.

To all those folks that responded to my post...............THANKS THANKS THANKS..........................
It sure did help...............I kinda thought the part had something to do with early emission systems. In fact I went over the whole top of the engine and have decided to leave it capped off. As for the "no-no" emission guys my 78 is registered as an antique and never has to be reinspected again as long as it stays in antique status.
I suppose that I was more worried about overall engine performance ie: idling etc etc.......
