Had my S.A up on the rack for its first bottom check-up and found the oil pan had taken a pretty good whack from something.
The damage is around the drain plug and makes for difficult draining of the dark stuff. I plan to get that pan off as soon as possible and check the baffle and oil screen for damage.
Anybody ever has this situation? What damage might have occured and what to look for with a new pan/gaskets if anything? It will have to be replaced. The drain area is mangled

Just look for damage to the pick-up screen. If it is damaged beyond use, you can replace it easily enough.
Make sure whoever you order the pan from gets you the correct pan for a Corvette. Camaro, or other Chebby pans will not fit properly in a Corvette, no matter what the salesguy says.
Replacing the pan is pretty straight-forward. Just make sure the side rails of the engine are clean and DRY, and be certain to seal the edges of the gasket to the rubber end seals on for the pan.

Thanks Joel....Good advise.
I checked G.M.P.D..com and the pan they showed as the correct one for an L82 did not look right. My drain plug is on the front left and theirs showed the plug on the front right....as far as I could make out.
They did state multiple applications as you said so I got wary.
There is one on ebay now that states N.O.S. L82 pan. It looks correct but I dunno

I have an L48 off of my 76 if you want it. I will hafta check on Friday. I told a friend of mine he could have it some time back and I never did ask or look to see if he took it. I'll Pm you ta let you know.

The pan don't know what engine it was on(L48/L82), nor does it care...The big difference with that is whether or not it had/has P/S, and if it came from a Corvette.

The L48 and L82 oil pans are different internally. Different baffling. I THINK the L48 pan has more baffles that MAY interfere with the block mounted baffle(windage tray?) on the L82. I have an L82 pan off of my black 79 out in a box(sorry, not for sale). Will go and take a look at it to see if I can find a part no. stamped into it. I'll take a pic of the inside baffles. Mike

Here's a couple of pics of an L82 pan for shopping comparison. It's 7 3/4" deep. The short sump is important if you still have original style 2>1<2 exhaust

Your pan looks like the one at GM parts. The drain plug is on the right. My drain plug (whats left of it) is on the left along with the dip stick.
