I have seen some custom jobs like that, where they painted the block/heads the same color as the body. In those cases, it really wasn't a bb/cc, per se. They simply mixed in the clear with the color, and sprayed it like that. It would be kinda tough to sand the base coat before shooting the clear, on an engine block.

When using this engine paint be SURE you use engine temperature primer first. It is made for very high temperatures. If you don't use it first you can be sure your engine paint will peel off in sheets after you've run the engine a while. Any automotive store that sells the correct
engine paint should carry the primer too.
Also - painting is like welding-  the surface has to be free and clean of all dirt, grease, rust etc.

Some people use a brush-on paint for the engine- it's a little shinner that the spray on - gets into all knnks and crainies - but on flat surfaces -like the oil pan - you have to be carefull of brush marks. POR 15 by restomotive laboratories should have the brush on type. I bought some years ago and it has more shine to it that standard engine paint. Also, you could try Bill Hirsch. Both are reputable. Look them up on the net, or in Hemmings. http://www.hirschauto.com/
Just my 2 cents

I have done several bc/cc paint jobs on engines and transmissions.  I just used an epoxy primer, followed by the paint.  One was a big block in a daily driver.  When I blew up the engine a few years later the paint still looked good.  I suspect using high quality urethane is a plus.

I have used the Por15 paints for blocks and it looks great, also have used Dupont Centari to match the car, both work well make sure free of oils and dirt.
