Hi,
I'm planning to replace all 4 calipers with sleeved o-ring calipers in my 68 (summer-)driver, but had confusing comments from a dealer selling conventional seal calipers when I asked for o-ring:

QUOTE: O rings are not for cars that are regularly driven. They are great for storing your Corvette, but when you drive it and get the calipers hot, you are subject to big trouble. Trust me on this, we have direct experience. General Motors agrees. We will never sell an O ring caliper, and neither will they! UNQUOTE

Any recommendations on what design to use?
Thanx.

From experience. I came to the point of pulling all my hair out messing with my brakes on my 75. From all my research, I found that GM's engineers did a very bad job on the corvette brakes. From what I gathered, GM wanted disc brakes on their corvette, that are actually bigger than they needed to be. They are subject to heat and leakage. The pads calipers have constant pressure from the pads, to keep the pistons from 'cocking' in the sleeve. If you really want to find out about corvette brakes, contact: http://www.zerotoleranceind.com/ I sent them a email and was contacted within a day from the owner. We spoke for over 45 min on just corvette brakes. I didn't purchase his modified pistons/orings, but he is full of great information. Check out their website. |saluteflag| |cool|

Hi

I can't believe that O-rings will get destroyed by heat any faster than the old prehistoric lip-seals.
If you are afraight of heat, VBP sells the kit with heat-insulated caliper pistons, so the heat from the pads does not transfer through the caliper pistons into the fluid.
I am driving the normal VBP O-ring conversion kit on my old , but already sleeved calipers and have no complains yet . And my 68 big block solid lifter square port monster does require breaking.
