ALCON, just talked to Zips today they say diff ring and pinion are shot. Asked to replace with original 3.36 gears. But they don't have right now, butt! They have 3.55 replacemrnt I said OK have to pick up tomorrow (finally) diff and T/As. So question is what do I have now? Is it a better set UP??? I will just be glad to get them back after 8 weeks! (WOOOWHOO) Let me know please what I have done. Thanks for the support.

Vette(s): 1979, Targa Blue (72 Color), Pace Car rear spoiler, L88 hood, Dark blue factory interior, 525HP 406, HD 700R4, 370 gears,Steeroids, composite rear spring, TT IIs wrapped in T/A Radials.
A little better out of the hole, a little worse on mileage, but was a good factory ratio.  It's not a radical difference...

I'd say the change is favorable. Thumbs%20Up

You're gonna notice a little better take-off...as in more "punch".
You'll also notice higher engine RPMs as you're cruizin down the road...not a lot, but it will be noticeable.
You'll notice yer speedometer is now off, too...it's gonna read faster than actual speed, unless you change your speed-o gear in the trans. Not a big job, tho.
The 3:55 gears were stock in the automatics...

Thanks all I knew it would not be much of a change just wanted to know how much. Was tempting 4.11 but I really knew that would be a big change. Thanks all

[/QUOTE] To actually go to the 4.11 gears you would have had to change the Posi carrier to a 4 series from your 3 series.
