Can anyone tell me where the oil temperature sensor gauge is located on an '81 L81? Bought new sensor from Dealer which is being shipped in but they are not sure where it is either. GM nor Haynes shows the exact location.
Thanks, Gurtz

I don't have the oil temp option on my '81. Instead it has a clock in place of where the oil temp gauge would be.
So after many years of tinkering with my vette I would have to guess that the oil temp sensor is threaded in above where the oil filter screws on.
The only reason I'm guessing this is because I have this "extra" connection near that area that I have no clue what is goes to. Plus there is not much room next to the oil pressure switch to put a oil temp. sensor, which is right next to the distributor.
So take a peek under the driverside just above the oil filter and see if there is a sensor there. Then let us know if this is where it actually is located for future reference.

Sensor on a 76 should be right behind the inlet manifold screwed into the engine block. Can be a pain to get to. Don't know if the 76 is a capillary type? If it is, all you will see is a small fitting with a plastic tube coming out of it heading to the firewall.

81 Corvette:
Thanks a bunch for the photo. That explains why the gage is possibly not working. That sensor is now in a water jacket in my motor. Nice motor in your Vette. Are you putting ground straps on your starter and alternator?
Thanks, GUrtz

Just the normal connections. Might need to do something like that to help it start better after it gets warm.
