I had to get a new one,my original went crazy on me. I put the new one on and it worked for about 2 weeks and then nothing. Made me mad. I just want to know why it went south on me so soon. Could it be that it was made in some far off co.

New don't mean "Good"...
Take it back and get another one, or get one from one of the 'Vette vendors, such as one of the sponsors here.
Did your gauge just stop working?

zgator, was it a GM part or aftermarket? I put a new GM one on my 82 about 6 months ago. Many of the vette vendors list GM sending units in their catalogs but I had difficulty finding one that actually had them in stock. I had the local chevy dealer order one for me, one day delivery. Yep, it cost a few $$ more but I got it quick and it works great.

Have you inspected it since installation? After I changed mine the stupid wire kept fallen off until I got pissed and replaced the connector. It's worked fine since then...

Having the same problem Gator. Replaced mines a couple of times. Noticed the last time it went when I stepped on the accelerator pretty heavy. Think I'll try the new GM one my next purchase

Have you tried to ground the wire at the sensor to see if the gauge works?
Unplug the sender connector(the tan wire is the gauge feed..the orange, and the tan w/white stripe are for the fuel pump relay feed), and just jumper the tan wire to ground somewhere. With the key on, the gauge should peg out. If it does not, then there is an issue with the wiring to the gauge, the gauge itself, or the dreaded circuit board.Adams' Apple 2007-08-05 07:38:15

Changed mine about 8 months ago and had the same problem... Removed it and found a little glob of thread sealer had plugged the tiny hole in the sender; the PO must have used it to stop the old sender from leaking??
Check for globs and muck and clean the threads on the engine.
Good Luck!
