Is there a difference in oil pick up tube for a small block in a corvette or can you just get one for sbc from local parts house

Depends on the pan depth - Chevy definitely made different depth pans for different applications. You'd want to be at 3/8" clearance with the pan and gasket installed. Here's a handy youtube video:
