I am trying to fix my leaks, I just fixed the one at the power steering pump now I am on to an oil leak coming from the front of the engine, it shows up after a drive. The oil shows up on the front side of the block around the fuel pump, I believe being blown their by my flex fan. I believe it is coming from the timing chain cover, but not sure. the cover is a chrome one i think chrome stuff just doesn't seal good. my question is when I did my engine swap on the oil pan I used a one piece gasket was that a good idea? I know to reseal the timing cover I will need to drop the oil pan. just looking for ideas on how to seal these things up?

Yup. There's no getting around lowering the pan in front to change that timing cover. gasket. Trying to shortcut can cause damage (and a lot of frustration). I like to use silicone on the inside corners as an extra measure. There's nothing wrong with a 1 pc. gasket, but needless to say, I'd be very sure of the origin of that leak before going there, it's a tuffee, but certainly a worthy cause Thumbs Up.

Well I put it up on jack stands and ran it for a little while. it was leaking at the timing chain cover where it meets the oil pan, and leaking a little from the rear of the oil pan. so I am going to replace the oil pan gasket with the normal 4 piece set.
has anyone used the one piece oil pan gasket and had it work?

I replaced my oil pan and valve cover gaskets with a one piece Fel Pro like this one: http://www.summitracing.com/parts/FEL-OS34510T/

Install was fairly simple and unventful, even for guy like me with 10 thumbs. Thumbs UpWillis762010-04-21 07:25:21

I have to agree on this one, I used the felpro one peice also and loved the way it installed. It has been in the car for over 5 years now and not a drop.

I just put a 1 piece pan gasket on a new pan that I had to replace and it sealed good around the timing cover. You need to put a little gray HI-TEMP ATV SILICONE in the corners where the cover meets the block and also at the rear main bearing housing.

well I have then new 4 piece installed things look OK so far I will try to take it for a ride sat. That looks like the one I had to replace,  did anybody have a chrome timing chain cover? I am not sure if I used sealant when I had installed it. some extra rtv where it goes across the main and timing cover would have helped.

I have at least 2. I use RTV in the corners and no problems with either.
