Vette(s): Used to own a 1979 Corvette now owned by JB79
Well, I got some time this weekend to install my new valve covers (provided by Gribble123!) and new $35 FelPro valve cover gaskets.
Links below are before and after pictures.
I also have a question. This picture is of one of the my original valve cover bolts and the ones I had to put in their place, because the aluminum covers have a thicker hole. Can you tell by looking at the new bolt (the silver one) if there is any reason why these were a bad choice?

Oh, also, what is the correct torque for these valve cover bolts? Does it matter if they are aluminum? Does the torque value change because of that?
Thanks!

Adam,
Looking sweet. Good job. You should not have a problem with your choice of bolts, just keep them snug. You will have to re-check the bolts every once in a while.
An easy way to determine if they're tight enough is to tighten the bolts, with light pressure on your fastening tool, then give it another light tap, but not too much, too much will screw up the gaskets. Just think of what it feels like to open an old door knob, and use that.
With the good gaskets you bought, you just need enough torque to keep the gasket surface touching the head. It helps that it is aluminum, this will spread out the torque evenly, unlike a steel cover, which bends the metal. The aluminum will not bend.
I'm glad to see the pictures. It feels good to know that they will live on, after my motor, and be put to good use, by a good guy.
Take care buddy.
