Ya think the exhaust is going to be one of those areas that is staightforward but it seems to present a lot of challenges. I had an issue with my sanderson shorty's and the steering gear box. I ground a bit of my gearbox to make room so it would fit and eventually I had to put a dent in the tube. I really didn't want to dent one cause it was the easy way out and the silver ceramic headers looked so good but it worked. Getting my downpipe on the passenger side to fit right was a pain as well and it still aint perfect but it's good enough for now untill I can get the whole thing to an exhaust shop. Good luck!

I looked at the pics and failed to see the problem. Side pipes are very cool.

Looking good. If the header is not hitting the steering box, personally I would not worry about it. I wonder if there is any slop in the mounts that could be adjusted.

Dave,
Didn't know you put a new engine in, it looks great. Hope you don't have the burning plug issue that I had with mine. I have to use the Accel Shorty plugs, and the Jacobs ceramic wires, plus the asbestos boot Censored
Bottom line, It sounds great !
Good luck, see ya soon.

Dave,

Any sort of torquing movement from the motor could cause it to hit the steering box. You could dimple the headers or.......

do like I did - upgrade to a rack and pinion and eliminate the steering box altogether!!

The pass. side header is tight up against the frame. The engine is not running yet so I don't know how much movement there will be.
I had to dimple one tube on the drivers side to clear the pitman arm when the wheel is turned all the way to the left.
I'm worried if the headers bang up against the frame when the engine torques it will cause stress on the welds and the bolts at the flange on the head, may crack the welds or loosen the bolts, then theres the banging noise! Am I over reacting here?

dAVE, HAVE YOU LOCKED DOWN THE HEADER TO THE HEAD PRIOR TO MOUNTING THE SIDE TUBE?  I`VE REMOVED AND REPLACED THOSE HOOKERS 3 TIMES. LLEAVE IT LOOSE ON THE HEAD UNTIL YOU GET THE THE SIDE PIPE MOUNTED , THEN TIGHTEN IT UP. IT SHOULD BRING IT CLOSER ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. GOOD LUCK,
