SOLD - "The Beast" - '90 ZR-1 (#682)
SOLD - "Betty" - '28 Ford Model A Tudor
SOLD - "BLKBRRD" - '78 Pontiac Trans Am
"BLUBYU" - '04 Coupe
Engine: 350 c.i./300 hp (Holley 4bbl)
Octane: usually 89 with an occasional splash of 92 when the price drops to somewhat reasonable
Foot: 2-3
Mix of highway and city
Mileage: mid-teens (I hope!)
Gear ratio: Don't know.|headscratch| 3k on the tach shows just over 70 on the speedo (in 4th gear).

Driving "The Toy" home to Minnesota from western PA we were cruising 75/80 mph most of the way and averaged about 18 mpg. Haven't really checked the gas usage around town 'cause I don't want to get bummed out by it...!!!

Let me add one more variable to the mix here... what kind of gear ratios do you have with your MPG?

---Orig Message---
Just wanted to see what kind of gas mileage everyone's getting out there... Let's see your engine specs, what octane you use, and how heavy your foot is, hmmm, on a scale of 1-5 (1=grandma, 5=Al Unser Jr.). And if it's highway or city driving mostly...

Good point about the gearing. I have an M21 trans with a 308 rear. Jim, at 70 I am doing 2850 rpm. There is a site or three listed in different posts with formulas for figuring your gearing, rpm, speed , etc. Do a search for ratios or axle.

I have a 79 L48 with a 350 stock V8 and automatic 700r4 transmission and 3:73 rear end. Before I put the 700r4 in I was getting about 10-12 mpg. After I put the overdrive trans in I am now getting 20 highway and 16 in town. The engine turns around 2300 rpms at 70 mph.It comes off the line really good but after it shifts to second it gets wimpy.I do really like the 700r4 because of the mileage difference and the car is quieter not turning 3500 rpms at 70.I am planning to beef up the engine later.Iwould like to get 350 to 400 hp. |toungecool|
