Hey All,
I've got a 75 Stingray with the L48 engine, feels like it has more power than 165hp but I just bought it and the PO didn't really know/care what had been done to it. It has true dual pipes with dual catalytic converters and Monza tips at least. So...from the engine, headers welded to pipes bolted to Cats bolted to long arse pipes to twin tips with "Monza" stamped or engraved on them. I was told by someone who had never seen the car that by not having the backpressure of mufflers i'll blow out the cats and eventually mess up the valves somehow. Right now I'm getting my car back in drivable condition without mufflers(powersteering problems), but I'm concerned about messing up the valves/cats in the long run. Anyone heard anything about this?

Horse Puckies!!!!! |ick|

Whoever told you that have NO idea what Monza mufflers ARE!!

I have them on ''Rosie''.....Monzas are muffler elminators.....if any the add to the free flow of the muffler system...the ONLY way ( that I can think of this minute) to BLOW the cats is for the timing to be so far off that it backfires thru the muffler system.

*chuckle* I could have said ALOT worse but after all this is a ''Family'' forum.|blush|

and if you forward this to 20 of your friends you wish will come true! |razz|

Debbie,

So basically what you're telling me is that with Monza's I don't NEED mufflers at all? Like theoretically even to pass inspection?

theoretically ..yes....but I would check with the rules of your state. Each state is different especially when it comes to emmissions.

Rose,
I'm confused...i know it passed inspection so that can be forgotten about(the guy called this AM =) |bouncy| |bouncy| |bouncy| |bouncy| |bouncy| |bouncy| |bouncy| |bouncy| but I'm still not sure what the Monza pipes DO. they make a freeflow exhaust system...presumably providing more hp, which is fine, but do the little baffles that can be seen in the tips provide noise control or airflow or what does the whole thing do?

Scot I had a set of them on for one day without a cat and removed them! They were nice with a cat,but really noisy when I removed the cat . They look really nice hanging on my wall, I replaced them with monza mufflers.

Geo,

you've thuroughly confused me, I'm not taking the cats out or anything. not actually doing anything with it, but I'm really curious what the difference between what I have(monza tips and straight pipes to them w/cats) and mufflers in there is....does this make sense??

OH OK>>>>thought that you still have to go thru your ninspection.

What the monzas do is elminate the mufflers...the ''tips'' ARE the mufflers. The black pipes with the chrome.
I kept my cats on...like the sound much better ...it really IS too loud without them. I still get a resonance though..at 35MPH..can really hear the thrum at the speed...but levels out the hugher the speed.

as to Mileage and HP..I really don't know....haven't been on a real trip yet to check the mileage and as to HP....personally...I think so...but maybe that is just me ''wishing''!
