Vette(s): White '79 Corvette. It's a driver.

Hey Paul,

In reference to the RPM's, what ratio is your rear diff? Is it stock or did you change it in anticipation of the 700R4?

Did the 79's all have the same ratio from the factory?

I'm gettin' a little "edgmacatin" here meself.

Vette(s): 1979, Targa Blue (72 Color), Pace Car rear spoiler, L88 hood, Dark blue factory interior, 525HP 406, HD 700R4, 370 gears,Steeroids, composite rear spring, TT IIs wrapped in T/A Radials.
Had 3.55s in it but changed em out for 3.70s a while ago. 3.55s were very typical in 79.

Wow Luke - thanks for the post.  Frank has been online checking out Bowtie Overdrives as a project for the little lady this year...it's awful taxing on the highway & she's not getting any younger.  Sounds like you were happy with everything you got from Bowtie.  Did they have a kit to go with the tranny, or did you have to purchase everything "a la carte"?  Let us know - he's reaaaaaally interested.  Sounds like the Lukester is going to enjoy those rides on the Parkway now.

Hey Bobbi, great to hear from you. as I didn't order their transmission, my transactions definitely were a la cart. But, these folks seemed real nice and actually, I bet if you were getting one of their transmissions, it's possible that they would put a more reasonable package for them if you talk to them.

One thing you'll have to do on your own is have your driveshaft cut to the proper length due to the longer overall length of these transmissions. The standard 700r4 tailshaft is a hair over 3" longer than a TH350 - but like the old saying goes, measure twice, cut once!!Wink

Also keep in mind that without a lift, this is a gwm workout on your back to some extent (and you'll want a strong second set of hands and some really, really good jackstands. Be careful.

I'll PM you my number if Frank wants to call me with any questions.

Paul

Hi Paul:
Thanks for the info - appreciate all the tips...we'll need them.  Yes, please do PM me your number - I'm sure Frank will have Q's.  BTW, where did you get your tranny, if you don't mind me asking?  As for the jack stands...Frans is spoiled - his dad bought him a lift last year at Carlisle for his birthday & for an anniversary gift, I got him the scissor jack for it (that was more of a safety issue, than a gift.....it was cheaper than his hospitalization co-pay...LOL).  Looking forward to hearing from you - he really wants to do this, it sounds like a wise investment for many reasons.  Take care & hope to see you soon!
