Vette(s): 1975 convertible,with the hard top and power streering.it a 350 L48 with auto trans. the color is light blue.

I taking the vette up to the base auto hobby shop to do a compression test.Will bad valve seals effect the test?Also I have the chance to pick up up aset of 350 heads how can I tell if they will fit for one and for two what should I look out for?

 if you post the head id number (should be on top under the valve cover, also ck the bolt holes on the front of the heads to see if they have the holes for what is bolted to your heads IE altanator air conditioning etc. I am sure you will get more info soon

if you want to get a better handle on your motor I suggest you do a leak down test along with the compression test, if your car smokes at start up but not at accel most likely dried up or torn valve seals, bad valve or seat, worn valve guide, effect the compression test, in a leak down test you pump up the cyl. with air, then you listen at the tail pipe for air which means a bad exh.valve or seat, at the carb means intake, at oil fill, weak rings or bad valve with worn guides, bubbles in radiator, bad head gasket. both test in combination narrows the problem down if there is one...Thumbs Upanips2009-09-01 18:34:20
