Redoing my top end, Had the heads done and now I am at the point of putting back together. Is there a way to visually determine if the lifters need to be replaced. Had no problem with oil pressure, but the cam end on some show slight wear ?
Also thinking about replacing stock rockers with rollers, any thoughts, can p/u some on e-bay for $50.00

IF THE LIFETERS ARE SHOWING WEAR, GENERALLY THE CAM HAS WEAR TOO. IF YOU ARE THIS FAR INTO THE TEAR DOWN, A CAM SWAP WOULD NOT BE TAKING IT THAT MUCH FURTHER. IF THEY ARE JUST REAL SHINY, THAT IS NORMAL. A NEW SET OF LIFTERS WOULDN'T HURT. HOWEVER, SHOULD YOU DECIDE TO RE-USE YOUR PRESENT LIFTERS, MAKE SURE THEY GO BACK IN THE BORES THEY CAME OUT OF OR YOU WILL END UP DOING A CAM SWAP!

Speaking of lifters - any heartburn using roller rockers on an LT-1 engine with solid lifters?

Vette(s): 1975 C3 Red, T-Tops, Black Interior. All I need is time and money! Getting there!

If you replace the lifters, you should replace the cam.  Unless the old lifters are in good shape, the cam could be damaged when the lifters are replaced.

You cannot use a regular cam with roller lifters.  You need to match them.  The grind and lobe position is different, even with the same specs.

You don't necessarly need to replace the rockers or use different covers.  You may want to go to roller tip rockers and cut drag even a bit more, and get a bit more power due to less drag.  These would probably require larger valve covers.

You can go to different rockers and increase valve opening if you are using the original cam.  If you use a new cam there is no point in differenr ratio rockers, just buy the cam that does what you want in the first place.

I p/u some new comp cam hyd lifters on e-bay as well as a set of roller tip rockers that they say can replace existing factory rockers without having to replace the valve covers. The old lifters were not terrible, but for $40.00 I felt it was good insurance. The roller tips hopefully will free up some drag as well
