I have an 82 and my VIN indicates that it has an L98 engine. Didn't the 82s come with L83s?

Vette(s): Re-acquired 1982 Bright Blue Vette from the guy a sold it to 13 years ago. 1993 40th Anniv. Ruby Convertible- purchased for my wifes 40th birthday-It has Chromed Grand Sport Wheels, Grand Sport Flares and a functional rollbar.
I ran your VIN through the VIN decoder and got the same answer as in your post. All the documentation I have ever read says that all 82's had the same engine RPO L83.

Ron,
Glad to see you post this. My 82 checks the same way. I would love to find out which is correct. My VIN also has a X in the random number spot that the VIN checker says is invalid. I know thats not correct because I've owned the car since it was new.
Maybe someone else knows. PLEASE HELP!
Fred
