If you have an automatic. the linkage from the trans to the base of the steering column is loose or out of adjustment.  You can see the connection right in front of the firewall.  Lift up on the lever on the side of the bottom of the column, and the key will come out.

The same procedure for a 4 speed car...the trans must be in Reverse to get the key out. If the cable is out of whack, loose, or mis-adjusted, it won't allow the sleeve on the column to rotate to the "release" position.
With either trans type, you can rotate the sleeve from under the hood, at the lower part of the column, just below where it comes thru the firewall. You should see a lever pointing toward the center of the car, with(hopefully) a cable attached to the lever. Moving the lever up, towards the top of the car should get the key cylinder to twist back enough to remove the key. Then, you could figure out WHY it's not working right.
The only other thing that could cause this problem would be if the key cylinder itself is messed up inside...but I would bet the cable is the problem...

Thanks, guys.It was the lever at the bottom of the column. I have it disconnected with no cable to it. It vibrated down. I dreaded pulling that column out thinking  it was internal.BTW, Ijust got the alignment done after installing the steeroids r&p. I"LL post later this weekend after I drive it a bit as to how well it worksBig%20smile
