Hey all, I just got me a Weiand Action Plus intake manifold. One question: the middle two bolts on either side of the carb mounting area look to be a pretty tight area in which to get a wrench. Any suggestions on which type of socket to use? I have a deep well and a shallow well 9/16 socket and I will be using a "click type" torque wrench to install the intake bolts. I've been told that using a universal socket makes the torque reading inaccurate.

When I did my cam change, I changed all the bolts over to allen key style. Besides the better looks, it was easier to get a allen wrench in those 2 spots. You can torque the other bolts down in sequence, use the allen key to get the "feel" for the torque on a previously torqued bolt & then tighten down the ones that are tough to get to. Other than that, good luck, tighten them down in recommended order & do it in a couple different steps. Hope that helps.

I have a set of crow's foot wrenches that snap onto my torque wrench, I have found these to be THE way to get into tight spots. Intakes, distributor hold down, etc. Although the allen key will also work I just have reservations about getting a "feel" for a torque value. My perception is usually way off and I end up under or over torqueing. Hope this helps!

I just got a set of ratching open end wrenches made by cresent tools they are great for tight places. the craftmen wrenches stink..they are too wide on the ends !!

To get the correct torque reading from a torque wrench the bolt being torqued needs to be centered with the torque wrench head. Crows feet wrenches extend the length of the wrench changing the torque values.Flywheel,rod ,main,etc bolts are important bolts to be torqued,intake bolts, no big deal.get after market bolts if you wish,get the tight ones by hand,torque the rest, warm the engine,let it cool stone cold recheck. Whats really important is to make sure the end seals don't leak
