Installing a 75 air cleaner seal

I got a new air cleaner seal from Santa for my 75 and was wondering how to get it to seal properly. I installed the bottom of the seal around the lip on the bottom of the cleaner and it fits perfectly. The top of the seal sits straight up and needs to fold over when the hood is closed to complete the seal. How do I get it to bend in properly? Right now when I close the hood it hits the seal but does not bend it and the hood does not close far enough to catch the hood lock. Any help would be appreciated.
