i made my crossmember removable on my 78 when i replace the 4 sp with a five sp, its was quite simple ( used a sawsall to cut the cross member- used the cutoff saw to make 2 u shaped brackets that slide over the cuts on the crossmember-drilled holes in the u shaped brackets and the crossmember and used long strong bolts (motor mount bolts) through both pieces
