I have a 71 LT1 that is stock except for Accel coil. When timing is set to book spec 8 degrees btdc car has small miss from idle to 6000 rpm. With timing set to 12 degrees btdc car run perfect as far as I can tell. Should I leave it at 12 or reset to 8 and try and find another cause for the miss?

Factory setting is only for smog/gas mileage. My 73 was set at 14 from the factory. According to the chart I have the set point changed from year to year and which engine it has. I had mine recurved so it would get to 36 degree's at 2800 rpm's for better performance. At idle it is at 16btdc.Brian - NCM Lifetime Member

Dito with Brian. Mine is also set to 36 degrees BTDC by 2500-3000 RPM. Much better response with the only down side of a little harder when cranking over. 
1980 L82 (5069 made), Dark Green Metalic (844 made)
