I am taking a poll from the dudettes and dudes in dis here forum.  I put the ladies first cause that's how my parents raised me!
 
Turns out Double T - "my handle for the blue money pit" - isn't feeling very good!  She has gotten rather sick here real quick like and gettin worse!
 
If you wanted to change out your HEI distributor from stock GM, whose would ya put?  MSD, Mallory, Pertronics or whomever?  We appear to have some firing problems!
 
Secondly, if you have a Edelbrock 600cfm carb, electric choke with only 1,600 miles on it and approximately 6 mos on the pit and your good buddy who is an good mechanic diagnoses float problems, whose would you choose.  I am gonna narrow the mix - Demon is out due to I can't see the bottom of the pit now!  Believe it or not, I have a Holley on a different pit and have never had a problem, so I do no!!!!

I've got the MSD Streetfire and am very happy with it.  I am also happy with the Q-Jet, when properly working although Holley is supposedly coming back.  They were living on their rep in the '80's and '90's but seem to be trying to correct that.

Maybe all your HEI needs is a new module. Cheaper than a whole new distributor.

You can get a distributor kit from MSD, Pertronix, and others that includes a new module, cap, rotor and coil. That could take care of your issues, assuming the problem is distributor related. Gunslinger2007-07-17 09:24:19

I was thinking the same thing gunslinger was ,  that you may just need a new module.  A lot cheaper and easier than a new dist.

I hear you guys, and I appreciate the replies, but I have a MSD and Holley in my other pit, Ford, and no problems, awhile now - several years.
 
I have a brand spankin new GM Dist and Edelbrock and recently the car wasn't firing properly, so I changed the rotor and cap and it was running better, but now the floats are tainted in the Edelbrock.
 
It is definitely loading up.  I like to cruise on long trips and right now I cannot pull out the garage the car is running that bad.  I know I pretty much answered my question regarding brand, but I was wondering if anyone had tried the other distributors and carbs.  I prefer the high voltage distributors.  The distributor in there has been giving me problems since initial startup, 3rd cap and 2nd rotor now.  Probably module related, but my wife drives the car also and I don't need it breaking down on her and my daughter especially as much as I travel and if I can more umph out of the change out that is a bonus.
 
Again, thanks for the replies.  I'll keep trying.

Vette(s): 1972 conv., sunfire yellow, blk interior, blk vinyl and convertible top. Off frame restoration with American Speed 383 stroker engine producing 500hp plus a 200hp NOS system. MSD ignition. Hooker super competition headers with chambered exhaust.
My restoration was finished in 2003 and I have never had any problem with the MSD or the Holley. I had the same on my 62 and 66 without any problem and I drove the 66 for 9 years.

Make sure your wires are good,qurtz. They can break down internally and cause crappy running. With the high votage running it it will destroy weak wires. Also check your inital and total advance. You can run a wider spark gap with the high voltage. Holly and Demon(Barry Grant) are good performance carbs with their tuneability. Edlebrock is a good street carb right out of the box and easy to tune. Quadrajet is another good street carb.
