Some have told me to be very sparing when I do this. What have you done in the past ? Half a pump or one whole pump with a big grease gun ?? Other ? Thanks, Dave.

Use a good quality lube that is not thick. A moly lube would work. Never really thought about measuring it tho...need enough to cover the teeth on the gears is about all I can say.

I had a cable rebuilt in a speedo shop in Midland, TX by a VERY knowledgeable guy. He gave a bunch of good advice and showed me examples of what happened when you OVER-lubed the cable, especially in places with cold winters. He used a very lightweight grease and put on just enough to be visible and rubbed it on the full length of the cable. I was installing a TREMEC 5 speed and have a factory original cruise control that still works and didn't want to screw it up.

I ended up giving it 4 full pumps with a large grease gun. Should be full of grease although there was no escapage of any grease to the outside .
