Can anyone tell me how I disconnect the shifter cable from the shifter bracket in my 77 automatic?  I know how to disconnect it from the shifter rod by removing the clip but cant figure out how it disconnects from the bracket.  I see there is what looks like a grommet but I don't know if it is threaded or not.  I am replacing the whole shifter assembly and need to figure this out!  Thanks to all for your help, I appreciate it!

Matt, where's Joel (Adam's Apple) when we need him? Probably he's answering questions in Hot Springs. Anyhow, towards the front of the heavy unpainted frame bracket is an opening where the cable goes thru. At that point, if you look closely is a "C" clip that holds the cable housing in place. You will need something like a dental pick (strong) to get it uncliped from its locking position.

corvette440hp, I can't thank you enough for the advice.  I was able to get the C-clip off and remove the shifter frame assembly.  It took a few minutes to figure out how to remove the clip but all went great.  Ready to install the new shifter assembly.......thanks again so much!
