Vette(s): 1977 corvette. Corvette dark blue. 450hp racing motor 355c.i.
when i am driving say in third gear and it is running at about 3000rpm and i mash on it there is a hesitation period before it takes off.  what could fix this problem?

It could be the result of the butterfly plate on the secondaries opening prematurely.  There is a tension adjustment on the passenger side of the carb near the upper part of the choke linkage.  It is a very small set screw that can be adjusted to make the butterfly plate harder to open which can help.
