Rebuilding engine. had cylinders bored 30 over, get block back and one cylinder is scored, about 17 scores 1/8 inch long all around the whole bottom of cylinder . Call the shop and the guy tells me its ok its down low,  not were the rings will ride.    Will this be ok ? Kyle802007-04-27 06:36:45

I may not be the best guy to answer this question but I'll tell you my experience.  I'm rebuilding my engine also because I pushed a couple of rods through my oil pan.  I lost a 1/4" chunck of the block at the bottom of cylinder 5 and the guy who re-bored my engine said that it would not be a problem that far down the cylinder.  I trust him completely.  Close family member.  Would like to hear opinion of others myself.

If the marks are all the way down in the bore, it should be fine. And the guy is correct, if the marks are down below where the rings will ride, there is no issue. If you have doubts, take it to another shop, and ask their opinion.
Can you get a good photo and post it here?

Heres a pic, not real clear and the light makes the scores look a little worse than they actually are. The scores are high enough were the skirt of the piston rides in the cylinder. And no the scores were not there they are from the shop I guess when they honed it. Yes im going to take it to another shop today and have them look at it, thanks for the replies.
