Hi,

I have a 1970 350/350. When I bought the car the previous owner said that the car was original with the exception of the block being replaced. He mentioned that he thought that it might have been a factory replacement and I am trying to verify this now. The VIN number is 194370S414742. The block casting number is CEA 194766. I know that this is nothing like the Corvette casting numbers. My question is - is this a factory replacment Corvette block or is it out of a passenger car?

Thanks for the help.

Dave

A Corvette small block would have the casting number of 3970010 regardless of its horsepower rating that year. I don't know what the casting number for yours means...it could designate a warranty replacement block, a truck block or sedan block. I don't have any information to decipher that.

Maybe someone else here has that information. Maybe you can find out through GM.

A CE stamping generally denotes a factory replacement block, but it should be stamped on the engine pad on the pass. side front, and not as a casting number. What is the casting number on the driver side rear top of the block?

Thanks for the feedback guys. Tom, the number I mentioned is stamped on the engine pad on the pass. side front. I'll check the other number location you mention and will let you know.

I checked the number on the driver side rear top of the block and it is 3970010. According to the Black Book, this covers anything from 1969-1980. But I guess it does mean that it is a Corvette block? Where to next? Do you think GM will be able to make sense of the Engine pad number?|headscratch|

Thanks again for the help.
