The Tach and the HEI (aftermarket) are not happy together. Tach shoe 6,500 at Idle. I just ordered a full HEI from Ecklers, cap, rotor, coil. Will this make the tach happy?

Most likely a problem with the tach filter. It was probably dis-connected when the aftermarket HEI was installed. Check to see if there is a spare/unused connector coming off of the "Tach" plug/terminal on the distributor cap. This wire will go down a few inches, and the tach filter will be in-line with that wire. If there is nothing plugged into the "Tach" terminal on the distributor cap, that means the tach isn't even plugged in.
